JEFF The Brotherhood gets compared to the Ramones and Weezer pretty consistently — not that that’s a bad thing — and Hypnotic Nights blares away in that style.

There’s the gritty pop rock of songs like “Hypnotic Winter” and break-neck scorchers like “Staring At the Wall,” with simplicity in chord changes that would make the Ramones nod in surly approval. But it’s not so simple as to be dismissable. JEFF The Brotherhood’s brothers, Jake and Jamin Orrall, have a knack for hooks, and they brought in the Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach for some extra styling in production.

What really makes Hypnotic Nights infectious, though, is the attitude. The vibe is a good-natured statement of “fuck it, we’re having fun.” It’s youth soaked in beer and having a hamburger. It’s a rock ‘n’ roll summer.
