Merry Tuesday everybody, it’s been an eventful weekend to say the least, what with the blackout and Beyoncé and most notable for music diehards, the new My Bloody Valentine album! It seems like there’s a never-ending stream of good news coming to music lovers in 2013, so without further ado let’s see what goodies you can look forward to on 1190 this week.
As mentioned, the godfathers of gazing at shoes themselves, My Bloody Valentine, dropped their endlessly awaited follow-up to Loveless this weekend, and oh boy is it glorious. Titled mbv, the album showcases a darker side of Kevin Shields than we’ve ever seen before, with songs that seem to evaporate within themselves as they tear through your headphones. Anyone who has a special place in their heart for the Valentines will find something to love here.
On a more modest note, Unknown Mortal Orchestra has released their excellent sophomore release II, and it’s completely stuffed with fond love for musical trends past and present. Fuzzy production lends a bizarre edge to the hooky riffs and upbeat drums, with a healthy dose of funk that lends this album a surprising amount of depth.
To end the week on a bizarre note, Bjork has released a compilation of remixes of her batshit Biophilia record, entitled bastards. Featuring artists like Omar Souleyman who spin foreign interpretations of tracks alongside Death Grips presenting two extremely harsh versions of Bjork songs, bastards is a unique release that will simultaneously baffle and amaze those who listen to it.
Other additions include:
* On the Outside Looking In, Romski.
* Somewhere Else, Indians.
* One Track Mind, Psychic Ills.
* Eleven Songs, Ergo Phizmiz.
