Second Story Garage: The Drunken Hearts
Second Story Garage: The Drunken Hearts

The Drunken Hearts, who generously stopped by to play SecondStoryGarage, are by their own reckoning a deeply Colorado band, and their sound is further evidence that the five-piece band comes from the high country. It’s a rock vibe imbued with country soul. Frontman Andrew McConathy’s voice is like moss blanketing a boulder — soft on top but solid underneath. The band recently added pedal steel player Cody Russell, and Russell’s playing, with its yearning high-lonesome qualities, seems a perfect complement to The Drunken Hearts’ soul. The band is more heart than drink.

The Drunken Hearts recently released an EP, “Live for Today.” It was produced by Railroad Earth’s Tim Carbone, who also performs on the album. Guitarist Scott Law — known for associations with Phil Lesh and The String Cheese Incident among others — also plays on the EP. Catch the band live when it plays on Sunday, April 28, at the Bluebird Theater in Denver.

And after you watch the performance above, recorded in SecondStoryGarage in our newsroom, check out “Make It Out Ahead,” “Under The Sun” and the band’s interview with Quentin.

What they brought us: A band sticker with an old-timey mustache on it. No, we didn’t stick it to anyone’s face.
