The second week of Boulder Rocks! came to an end early Friday morning after Kiaralinda Ramquist found the rock in a search with her husband, Todd Ramquist, and their friends John and Lynn Whipple.
After a chaotic week filled with poseur rocks and general frenzy, Ramquist came across the official rock at the 30th Street underpass on the Goose Creek Bike Path. The rock was near the trout mural in the underpass. For finding the rock, Ramquist won a $500 Visa Gift Card and two tickets to Riot Fest in Denver.
Ramquist, a part-time resident of Boulder and Florida, said she had been looking for the rock with her husband and the Whipples since Tuesday, and found the official rock on Friday around 6:15 a.m. She said each clue was helpful, but the final clue — “I tasted the rainbow and it tasted like trout” — led to her to the rock.
Todd Ramquist said the group saw people searching for the rock each day and began to doubt whether they would find it. “Everyday, when you see that many people, you realize, ‘It can’t be here, because so many people have looked.” Ramquist said Thursday at the YMCA in Boulder he saw about 30-40 people looking for the rock.
Even while searching for long hours in the blistering sun, Kiaralinda said the Ramquists and the Whipples, all visual artists, managed to make fun days out of the hunt. Each morning the group would check the clues and begin their day. “We were drinking, walking, hiking, going to happy hour and trying to figure it out,” Kiaralinda said.
Ramquist wasn’t exactly sure what she would spend her $500 Visa Gift Card on just yet, but said it would most likely go towards food, music and art.
