You’ve powered through this semester, but between the snow, the depressing end of football season and the threat of midterms baring their hideous teeth right around the corner, you’re a little burned out.
February fatigue can have a huge impact on your schoolwork, your friendships and even your eating habits. (Trust me, I would know… I may have just polished off the last of my birthday brownies.)
Getting over that hill can seem like the most daunting task you’ll face this year — and hey, maybe it is. But there’s no need to wait until March rolls around; here are a few tips to help you leave your lethargy behind this week.
It’s important to give yourself some time and savor the slump. After all, living go-go-go all the time is what got you here in the first place. Eat like crap for a day, skip the gym, sleep until noon. Fighting and judging your feelings will only amplify how awful you feel. It’s important to indulge them a little bit.
Remember how things were before you hit the wall? It was hard to prioritize, and you’d end up doing everything in sight instead of just the important stuff. Texts at 11 on a Wednesday asking you to go to the Walrus? Sure, you’d say, why not? Little bro needs a ride to the slopes? Well, you do love checking out the shops in Breck… But all those little things pile up on top of what you already needed to get done, and boom — toasted. (And not in the good way.)
Now that you’re tired out, it’s pretty easy to turn down even the simplest of tasks — it’s been far too long since your last “Namaste” — so you have a bit of a blank slate to work with. You know, tabula rasa and all that.
The first things you get back to should be the ones that are most important to you. This can be anything from getting your sleep schedule back on track to taking care of the homework that’s been piling up. Taking some time to write down your priorities can help you break out of future slumps, too.
After you decide what’s most important, the other things will fall into place. There’s something addictive about checking things off your list, and that rush builds some serious get-shit-done momentum.
February fatigue can totally drag you down, but it doesn’t have to ruin your month. With some indulgence, prioritizing and a little bit of work, you’ll be ready to take on the world.
