If you’re sitting on your stoner butt all day Sunday, eating Easter candy, you’re doing it wrong.
Actually that sounds so right, but you’d be missing out on some excellent concerts. As usual, the 4/20 parties will star rappers, producers and DJs. And because Easter and 4/20 are colliding this year, at least one show is having an Easter Egg hunt and free Voodoo Donuts. We’re willing to bet others will have holiday-appropriate treats (and we don’t mean Easter). Read on to find out which show is serving up what.
9 p.m. Saturday
Ring in 4/20 Eve (that’s a thing, we just decided) with Paper Diamond. The local producer and DJ plays Saturday night at the Ogden Theatre (935 E. Colfax Ave.) in what they’re dubbing the “Colorado Cold Crush.” He’ll be joined by producer Branchez and hip-hop artist Kaytranada.
Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa
7:30 p.m. Sunday
Red Rocks Amphitheatre
This is the big one. Naturally, it sold out ages ago. There are still hundreds of tickets available on Stubhub if you’re willing to drop upwards of $125. (Someone is seeking $1,000, which is bonkers.)
It’s well worth it if you have the money, for obvious reasons. Snoop and Wiz are two of the most weed-oriented rappers ever, and this will be a hell of a party. What better way to celebrate 4/20 in the first year of legal marijuana in the state’s most beautiful venue with music’s biggest stoners?
9 p.m. Sunday
DJs and producers Kenny Beats (Kenneth Blume) and Ryan Marks have been performing together at LOUDPVCK since 2009. According to the duo’s bio, “Genre-pigeon holes aside, they have thrown down some of the most filthy, tracks out there.” So, keep 4/20 simple. You don’t have to wander farther than the Fox (1135 13th St.) for this party.
Method Man and Redman
1:30 p.m. Sunday
Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom
Rather than sitting on your couch or rallying in Denver’s Civic Center Park, get over to Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom (2637 Welton St.) for a day show. Like Red Rocks, they’re offering up a very pro-weed duo, Method Man and Redman. The show is sponsored in part by Weedmaps and Altitude the Dispensary, so maybe, just like Wu Tang on New Year’s Eve, they’ll be tossing out goodies.
The opening acts include a long list we don’t quite understand, but it sounds perfect: 8Ball & MJG, Stay Tuned ft. Ichiban, Lily Fangz, High Five and Dirty Bong Water.
Nitty Scott, MC
8 p.m. Sunday
4/20 parties aren’t all about the dudes. Nitty Scott, self-described “new school fly girl who isn’t afraid to get down with the cypher,” will be at the Larimer Lounge (2721 Larimer St.) to lead her own celebration. She’s the front of a movement, The Boombox Family, that focuses on message-driven hip hop.
She’ll be joined by DJ Izer and Qbala, and there will be an Easter egg hunt and free Voodoo Donuts.
