As savvy as being a journo nerd has made me on current events, I’m mostly socially stupid. And I don’t mean my inability to talk to folks in anything but fluent spazz. (I call it being excitable and/or happy to be there. Others call it “Uhhh, is she OK?”)
But current TV shows or new releases? Nothing. I turned to my friends the other day proclaiming I wanted to see such’n’such movie, only to find out it was so old, Redbox didn’t even carry it anymore.
God I miss Blockbuster. Excuse me for a moment, getting my knitting needles and heating pad…
Even “the classics,” I’m an uneducated fool. So much disappointment to those who tire of saying “You really haven’t seen any of the Godfathers?”
Like “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.” Whatever I know about that film is what I learned when “Glee” did a special on it. Commence public shaming.
I GET IT. I promise I’ll watch it. Honestly, with a Dr. Frank-N-Furter, I’m shocked I haven’t. Join me, will you?
The Boulder Theater (2032 14th St.) is hosting a screening of said cult classic this Friday. Doors open at 7:30 p.m.
Now, you know you’re craving a delicious craft beer this weekend. It’s what the Coloradans do. And while playing the ABC Game in hushed tones so nearby families don’t have you removed is grand, let’s go for helping charity. (You know, the game where you name inappropriate words for each letter? Drunken alter egos love that shit.)
This Saturday, Twisted Pine Brewing (3201 Walnut St.) is teaming up with the Foothills Kiwanis Club of Boulder and the Alert Service Dogs for Kids Academy to put on the Paws for Kids’ Cause. This is a group that helps get kids with life-threatening diabetes or food allergies service dogs. Cool, right?
Well this benefit will host a silent auction and a cornhole tournament, and obviously the delights of Twisted Pine. We like breweries and throwing stuff, right? Head over from 2 to 6 p.m. You’ll even get to see some service dogs in action.
Friday, get out of your comfort zone and tune into something I doubt is on many of your iPods. Over at the Bohemian Biergarten (2017 13th St.), Big Paddy is playing at 10 p.m., and I warrant an evening with great music and quality brews is right up most of your alleys.
On Saturday, DJ Goodie will be hitting up Tahona Tequila Bistro (1035 Pearl St.) at 10 p.m. That place has a great vibe, drinks that’ll get the job done, and fine beats to move to.
Got your own events? I love that. Tell me about it.
