Neighbors, town officials cry foul over ‘WTF’ sign on lawn
WOODBURY, Conn. — A Connecticut homeowner who planted on his lawn three large wooden letters that spell “WTF” is rankling neighbors and town officials who say the message is offensive.
WFSB-TV reports the phrase “Woodbury wastes taxpayer funds” is written on the letters along Main Street in historic Woodbury, a town of 10,000 residents. “WTF” also can stand for an obscene exclamation of disbelief.
This isn’t the first time homeowner Thomas Arras has fought with the town and the Woodbury Historical Commission over his handcrafted protest messages. A previous sign targeting First Selectman William Butterly Jr. read: “Butterly utterly utterly disappointing.”
Butterly isn’t affiliated with a political party. He says he’s outraged by the “WTF” sign but there’s not much the town can do about it without changing its rules.
Extra crispy bacon and ribs: Truck carrying pork catches fire
CUMBERLAND, Md. — Drivers on Interstate 68 may have smelled home cooking when a tractor-trailer carrying bacon, ribs and other pork products caught fire in Maryland.
Cumberland Fire Department Captain Steve Grogg tells the Cumberland Times-News that the truck caught fire Monday evening, shutting down eastbound traffic from 6 p.m. to midnight. Tanker trucks supplied water to put out the blaze and several area fire departments helped extinguish the fire.
Nobody was injured in the fire.
This was the third semitrailer fire in Cumberland in the past two weeks. Grogg says that as trucks come down a steep hill on I-68, the brakes get hot and catch on fire, which spreads to the trailer.
Grogg says a fire hose was damaged beyond repair by bacon grease.
