A man who reportedly ran out of a department store on the Twenty Ninth Street mall with a handgun earlier today was arrested by Boulder police.
According to a release, a “suspicious party” was reportedly seen leaving the Macy’s store, 1900 29th St., with a handgun. Officers spotted the man before he ran toward the Target across the street at 2800 Pearl St.
Officers were able to catch the suspect, who was later identified as Richard Scott Douglas, in front of the Target. Officers found a semi-automatic pistol and a loaded magazine on Douglas, and he was medically cleared and then booked into the Boulder County Jail.
Boulder police spokeswoman Shannon Aulabaugh said Douglas also is believed to be the suspect in an attempted shoplifting on Saturday, in which he reportedly fought with loss-prevention officers before fleeing the store. In that instance, witnesses also reported he had a gun.
Douglas, 21, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated robbery, carrying a concealed weapon, obstructing a peace officer, violation of a restraining order and a hold out of Denver for distribution.
