A cyclist was seriously injured Friday night after he was hit in a crosswalk by a driver who then fled from the scene before later turning himself in.
Boulder police spokeswoman Laurie Ogden said the cyclist, who has not been named, was heading south on Broadway and was crossing Canyon Boulevard in a crosswalk at 9:50 p.m. Friday when he was hit by a Honda Odyssey turning left onto westbound Canyon.
The cyclist was transported to the hospital with serious but nonlife-threatening injuries.
Ogden said the driver of the van, later identified as Newsome James Gibson, 67, initially drove away from the scene but then called police about 30 minutes later. Gibson will be issued a ticket for careless driving resulting in serious bodily injury.
