Boulder Police investigate the scene of an apparent stabbing at the Boulder Creek underpass at Broadway.
PUBLISHED: | UPDATED:

A report of a stabbing investigated Thursday afternoon by Boulder police turned out to be two men brawling at the underpass of Arapahoe Avenue and Broadway.

Detective Sgt. Barry Hartkopp said the incident was initially reported around 2 p.m. Thursday as a stabbing because a witness saw one of the men brandish a knife in self-defense, but after contacting all of the people involved police found it was never used.

Thomas Walter, 55, and Christopher Colburn, 32, were taken to hospital with minor injuries and later booked into the Boulder County jail for brawling and on outstanding warrants. Colburn had two warrants, one for failing to appear in court for a trespassing charge and another for failing to appear for another brawling charge. Walter’s warrant was for a violation of a restraining order.

As a result of the initial stabbing report, Boulder High was placed on lockout for a short time.
