Boulder-based Ozo Coffee Co. will for the next month host a fundraiser to raise awareness about and support for the NAACP Boulder County branch.
Donation jars will be available at the company’s four Boulder locations and one Longmont location through June 21.
The fundraiser also is meant to publicize an NAACP-hosted event at Macky Auditorium on June 23.
The event will feature the McIntosh County Shouters, master artists of the ring shout. The ring shout is a performance tradition brought to the United States by enslaved Africans that melds dance, song and percussion, according to a news release. The McIntosh County Shouters have been performing the ring shout their entire lives, and they aim to educate audiences about the ring shout and life during slavery, as well as to keep memories and Gullah Geechee heritage alive through storytelling and performance.
