Torchy’s Tacos will open for business in Boulder later this year.
A note on a window at the former Turley’s Kitchen, at 2805 Pearl St., is announcing the impending arrival of the fast-casual taco chain that got its start as a food truck in Austin, Texas, in 2006.
“Torchy’s Tacos in Boulder is slated for opening in Winter 2019,” said Reid Schwartz, senior account supervisor for EDIBLE, on behalf of Torchy’s. “Currently, Torchy’s Tacos has six restaurants in Colorado, with five in the Denver area and one in Fort Collins.”
The Turley’s Kitchen building is being renovated inside, and an application for minor modification for exterior aesthetic improvement has been filed with the city’s planning department. The Turley’s building will have room for another restaurant next to Torchy’s, according to the documents.
In March 2016, President Obama stopped by Torchy’s Tacos’ first Austin brick- and-mortar restaurant, Schwartz said. He ordered politically-themed tacos: Democrat (barbacoa), Republican (jalapeno sausage) and Independent (mushrooms), he said.
