One person dead after south Boulder traffic stop

Boulder police: No officers fired any shots

One person is dead of what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound following a traffic stop in south Boulder early this morning.

According to a release, a Boulder police officer pulled over a vehicle with possibly stolen license plates in the 2800 block of Moorhead Avenue at 5:30 a.m. Monday.

After the vehicle stopped, the officer heard a gunshot and took cover and called for backup. SWAT was called to the scene, and reverse 911 calls were made to 229 homes in a five-block radius of the call.

When SWAT arrived, they found the suspect driver dead. While police have not said if the shot is believed to have been self-inflicted, police said no officer fired a weapon.

Police and the Boulder County Coroner’s Office will investigate the case. The suspect’s name has not been released yet by the coroner’s office.
