When Thom Yorke, the lead singer of Radiohead, plays the Mile High City, he tends to perform at venues that hew to either side of his fame.

When it’s with Radiohead, the English band tends to headline the 9,525-seat Red Rocks Amphitheatre — or at the very least, a venue like Broomfield’s FirstBank Center, which can hold up to 6,500 people, depending on the stage set-up.

When it’s solo, or with side projects such as Atoms for Peace, the 51-year-old plays the 1,870-seat Paramount Theatre — a relatively small room for someone of his Grammy-winning stature.

For Yorke’s latest solo jaunt, however, he’s looking at a mid-range Denver venue in the form of Mission Ballroom, AEG Presents Rocky Mountains’ purpose-built, expandable room on a developing edge of the River North Art District.

That’s not unprecedented, given the big names that have been announced for Mission (next up: Bob Dylan on Oct. 17) and the fact that the venue can expand from 2,200 capacity to nearly 4,000 with its movable stage. But it does mean a closer-than-usual look at the enigmatic performer.

Yorke will headline Mission Ballroom on April 8, 2020, with tickets on sale at 10 a.m. Oct. 18. General admission passes for the 16-and-up show will cost $55-$99.50 and will be available at

The show is one of five newly added dates for Yorke’s Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes tour, including stops at huge venues in Chicago, St. Louis, New York, St. Paul, Minn., and Fairfax, Va.

Let’s hope the ticketing process for this show is more organized than recent sales at Mission, which have been complicated enough to leave fans feeling burned by the confusing, secondary market-driven churn of sales and re-sales.
