An elderly pedestrian hit by an RTD bus this morning in Boulder while crossing Baseline Road has died.

Boulder police spokesman Dean Cunningham said an 85-year-old man was crossing Baseline Road east of Mohawk Drive at 10:15 a.m. today when he was struck by an RTD bus trying to turn left from southbound Mohawk Drive onto eastbound Baseline.

The pedestrian was in the crosswalk at the time of the crash.

The man was taken to Boulder Community Health’s Foothills Hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Eastbound Baseline Road and the intersection of Baseline Road and Mohawk Drive were completely closed this morning due to the investigation, but all roads have reopened.

Police have not yet announced any charges or the name of the bus driver, pending further investigation.

Spokeswoman Pauletta Tonilas said RTD did not have any further information on the crash at this time.

“This is an unfortunate incident for all involved,” Tonilas said in a statement. “The driver is undergoing standard tests following an accident, and our staff continues to work with Boulder authorities on the investigation.”

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call Officer Dan Bergh at 720-648-0546.
