The 28th annual coat drive organized by the Boulder Valley Rotary Club and Art Cleaners collected nearly 3,000 coats and other winter items through Boulder County and Broomfield schools and area businesses.

The winter garments were distributed earlier this winter to people in need through local nonprofit organizations. For the all-volunteer effort, Boulder Valley Rotary members collected, sorted and distributed the coats and Art Cleaners donated the cleaning services.

The Boulder Valley Rotary Club also provides a cash prize to schools that collect the most coats per student, ranging from $150 for first place to $50 for third place.

Winners for small schools, with fewer than 350 students, were Jamestown Elementary in first place, Nederland Elementary in second place and Jarrow Montessori in third place.

Winners for medium schools, with 350 to 550 students, were Douglas Elementary in first place, Louisville Elementary in second place and Platt Middle in third place.

Winners for large schools, with more than 550 students, were Broomfield Heights Middle in first place, Eldorado K-8 in second place and High Peaks/ Boulder Community School of Integrated Studies in third place.
