The owner of a Longmont nail salon on Main Street north of 17th Street was beaten unconscious inside her salon Saturday, in what police are calling a random attack.

About 11 a.m., an unknown man entered the salon and violently assaulted the 61-year-old owner, according to Longmont police Deputy Chief Jeff Satur.

The woman was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries, and on Thursday was moved into a rehabilitation center, where she is recovering.

The suspect was last seen leaving the salon through the back door of the business at 11:34 a.m., according to Satur. A photo taken from video footage shows the suspect. Police say he is Hispanic, between 20 and 30 years old and between 5 feet, 4 inches and 5 feet, 7 inches tall with short black hair, possibly recently cut. He was last seen wearing jeans, brown boots, an orange hat and a maroon and navy striped short-sleeve shirt. The photo shows the suspect wearing a mask.

Satur said there is no information that the two knew each other. The call initially came in as a robbery, but Satur said the assault can’t be confirmed as a robbery yet because the victim was beaten unconscious.

Satur did not release the block of Main Street the nail salon is in, citing he is concerned about the victim and her business. He did note the attack appears to be random, and there is not information or other incidents that lead him to believe the suspect is targeting nail salons or other small businesses.

The news release was sent out immediately after detectives retrieved a good photo of the suspect, Satur said, and did not release information sooner in an effort to minimize false identification.

The only lead police are working is the photo. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective John High at 303-651-8584.
