The Inner Ocean Empowerment Project, a Lafayette nonprofit, announced the creation of its new Healing Our Heroes Program.

This program offers free acupuncture sessions and massages to healthcare providers, frontline workers and caregivers who are helping the community during the pandemic, according to a release.

Founder of the Inner Ocean Empowerment Project, Mindi Counts, said in the release the staff wanted to give back to those who have served the community during the pandemic, at possible risk to themselves.

“We are grateful to the physicians, nurses, medical assistants, grocery store employees, police and fire personnel — and the home caregivers who have stood by our community,” said Counts in the release. “We invite them to contact us to schedule a massage or acupuncture session free of charge.”

Bodywork for Liberation massage therapists and Inner Ocean Center for Healing acupuncturists and herbalists are working to encourage frontline workers and caregivers to focus on their own healing, reduce their stress and anxiety and restore their energy and strength of spirit.

To ensure they are equipped to support their clients, all practitioners have been trauma-informed by completing trauma training provided by the nonprofit.

Services by the program will be provided in the Inner Ocean Center for Healing offices at The Silos Wellness Center at 816 East Baseline Road in Lafayette.
