Boulder County adds another death as single-day hospitalizations reach highest number since May 1

CU Boulder up to 13 coronavirus-related suspensions


A new coronavirus-related death was tallied in Boulder County on Tuesday, while current hospitalizations related to the respiratory illness reached their highest number since May 1.

Additionally, the University of Colorado Boulder’s coronavirus dashboard shows 13 suspensions and 63 probations since Aug. 17.

The individual who died was in their 70s and was not associated with a long-term care facility, Boulder County Public Health spokesperson Chana Goussetis said. The county’s coronavirus-related death toll is now 85.

County data shows the daily number of patients hospitalized has been steadily increasing since mid-August, as have hospitalizations statewide. Data shows on Tuesday there are 34 hospitalizations — the largest number since May 1.

Boulder County tallied 43 cases Tuesday, bringing the total to 5,151. There have been 229 hospitalizations and there are 251 disease investigations in progress.

CU Boulder recorded two coronavirus cases Tuesday. The dashboard also shows 357 “educational interventions” since Aug. 17. There have been 1,117 positive test results from 5,804 on-campus tests since Aug. 24.

The two cases returned from 111 diagnostic tests performed Monday, the dashboard shows. On Monday 902 screening tests were performed, bringing the university to 38,579 performed screening tests since Aug. 24. There is one on-campus isolation space in use — .2%.

Boulder County officials on Tuesday lifted student-aged gathering restrictions, citing continued low coronavirus case counts, low case positivity rates and consistent testing.

St. Vrain Valley School District’s coronavirus dashboard shows 19 active, confirmed cases of the virus — one more than Monday. Of the cases, 12 are among students and seven are among staff.

The dashboard shows the following active cases among staff: one at Coal Ridge Middle School, one at Legacy Elementary School, one at Longmont Estates Elementary School, one at Longmont High School, one at Skyline High School, one at Sunset Middle School and one at Timberline PK-8.

The following are active cases among students: one at Erie Elementary School, two at Erie High School, one at Frederick High School, one at LaunchED Virtual Academy, one at Longmont High School, two at Silver Creek High School, one at Thunder Valley PK-8 and three at Westview Middle School.

There have been 58 cumulative cases in the district, which includes active cases.

Boulder Valley School District’s coronavirus dashboard on Tuesday shows five active cases: two at Broomfield High School, one at Eldorado PK-8, one at Flatirons Elementary and one at Summit Middle School. There have been two cases closed in the district’s transportation department, one closed at Whittier Elementary and one closed at Birch Elementary.

The dashboard shows 31 students and six staff quarantined at Broomfield High. There are 18 students and two staff quarantined at Eldorado PK-8 and 10 students and three staff quarantined at Flatirons Elementary. There are four staff quarantined at Summit Middle.

Statewide, there have been 87,582 positive or probable cases. There have been 2,182 deaths among the cases, and of those, there have been 2,060 deaths because of the coronavirus. There have been 8,332 people hospitalized. Of Colorado’s roughly 5.7 million population, 1,095,721 people have been tested for the virus.
