Boulder County Public Health reported Thursday that a resident with COVID-19 died, and that there are 78 new cases.

“We were notified today that a Boulder County resident with COVID-19 passed away on January 10,” Boulder County Public Health spokeswoman Chana Goussetis wrote in an email. She stated the resident was in their 90s and not a resident of a long-term care facility.

On Thursday the Boulder County Public Health updated data on its dashboard, typically updated only on Mondays and Thursdays, which reported that 394 residents associated with long-term care facilities have tested positive for COVID-19 since December 2019. According to BCPH, 145 of the total 201 COVID-19 deaths reported in Boulder County were of those aged 75 or older.

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment on Wednesday released its weekly outbreak report, showing four new outbreaks in the county. The new outbreaks are at Atria Longmont, Grease Monkey #69, Institute of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery & Reconstruction Surgery and Kaiser Permanente Rock Creek General Surgery Department. These four new active outbreaks brings the county’s unresolved outbreaks to 44.

One of the new outbreaks reported is the assisted-living facility Atria Longmont, 2310 9th Ave., which was determined Monday. The facility reported two resident cases and four staff cases. Atria did not respond to requests for comment in time for publication.

The Institute of Aesthetic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, 1305 Sumner St., Longmont, had its outbreak determined Jan. 7. The surgical center, which had five cases, did not respond to requests for comment in time for publication.

There were five cases at Grease Monkey #69, 1230 Ken Pratt Blvd., Longmont, in its outbreak determined Jan. 8. Messages left requesting comment from management were not returned in time for publication.

Kaiser Permanente Rock Creek General Surgery Department, 280 Exempla Circle, Lafayette, has 2 cases in its outbreak determined Jan. 12. The General Surgery Department was not available for comment this week, officials said.

However, 14 outbreaks were resolved this week according to the state data:

The 78 new cases reported on Thursday in the county brought its case total to 16,138. There also have been 432 people hospitalized since the pandemic began. The five day rolling percentage of COVID-19 PCR diagnostic tests with positive results among Boulder County residents remains at 4.5%.

Goussetis said Boulder County Public Health will not add data about the B.1.1.7 variant, which has been detected in a resident in their 20s, to its online dashboard at this time because the CDPHE monitors those infections.

“If this changes, we may add it if we have access to the information,” she said.

The University of Colorado Boulder, which began its spring semester Thursday with fully remote learning, updated its online dashboard Thursday. During testing from Wednesday, there were 8 new positive test results from 140 diagnostic tests and 509 monitoring tests. Since Jan. 4, the first day of data the updated dashboard tracks, there have been 66 positive tests, while the fall had 1,725 positive tests, for a total of 1,791 positive tests detected in the university’s monitoring program.

Boulder Valley School District reported on its online coronavirus dashboard that there were 10 positive cases, 9 probable cases and 4 pending, symptomatic cases.

The St. Vrain Valley School District reported 39 active cases, split between 32 students and 7 staff. The district has seen a cumulative 443 student cases and 189 staff cases, totaling 632.

Boulder County Public Health reported a downward trend across all COVID-19 metrics, except cumulative incidence on Wednesday, as CDPHE reported one new case of the B.1.1.7 variant in Boulder County. The new variant is purportedly more contagious according to the United Kingdom and Colorado state lab scientists.

According to the Wednesday news release, the Boulder County resident who tested positive for the B.1.1.7 variant of the virus is in their 20s. The case initially was discovered by a private lab and then confirmed by the state lab, the release states.

In response to the fifth case of the new variant CDPHE is adding “variant case totals in the case summary snapshot on the COVID-19 data dashboard,” a news release said.

Statewide, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment reported there are 366,774 cases. There have been 5,285 deaths among cases, and of those, there have been 4,386 deaths due to COVID-19. There have been 20,432 people hospitalized. Of Colorado’s more than 5.7 million people, 2,262,372 people have been tested.
