A woman was transported to a hospital by medical helicopter on Friday after suffering life-threatening injuries when a horse roller over her.

The 66-year-old West Des Moines, Iowa, woman was injured after the ground gave way under her horse and it rolled over her, according to a news release from the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office.

The Boulder County Communications Center was notified of an injured horse rider on the Coulson Gulch Trail.

Big Elk Fire Department and Estes Park Paramedics stabilized the woman and provided initial medical care. Rocky Mountain Rescue Group provided a wheeled litter evacuation to an awaiting a medical helicopter, according to the release. Med Evac provided further medical care and flew the injured woman who had life-threatening injuries to a Boulder area hospital. The rescue lasted about three hours.
