Boulder County rescuers on Friday located a lost 13-year-old Boy Scout, who had become separated from his hiking groups while descending to the Fourth of July Trail parking lot.

The scout used the 911 function on his phone to call the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office at 1:11 p.m. He had been on a group hike that was headed toward South Arapahoe Peak, according to a Boulder County Sheriff’s Office news release. The scout told authorities he had gone off trail while descending to the Fourth of July Trail parking lot, the release said.

The remainder of the scout group from Blue Springs, Missouri, who were hiking as two separate groups, thought the teen was in the other group and returned to the parking lot.

Deputies from the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office were able to map and hike to the lost scout’s location, which was just south of the Fourth of July Mine, and assist him back to the parking lot.
