Longtime New Vista Principal Kirk Quitter recently resigned, citing personal reasons, as the leader of the small, nontraditional Boulder high school.

Quitter, who previously worked as the director of a small charter high school in Arizona, became the school’s second principal in 2009 after the retirement of school founder Rona Wilensky.

The district appointed Sennen Knauer, who was the assistant principal at Erie’s Meadowlark K-8, as New Vista’s interim principal. The district plans to start the search for a permanent principal for the school in December.

“Our focus right now is doing everything possible to support students and the school community during this transition,” Assistant Superintendent Robbyn Fernandez wrote in a letter to New Vista families.
