Friday will be the final evening to view the Boulder Star on Flagstaff Mountain.
The star, originally illuminated on Veterans Day, was supposed to be turned off Jan. 2. However, the Boulder Chamber announced that it intended to leave the Boulder Star illuminated in support of residents and businesses impacted by the Marshall Fire.
According to a news release, the star also stood as a symbol of appreciation for firefighters and other first responders.
The decision to turn it off Friday is in part meant to minimize natural resource damage in the area and to protect the habitat for nesting raptors, according to the Boulder Chamber.
