Intermountain Healthcare, the new operator of Good Samaritan Medical Center in Lafayette, has directed $15,000 of charitable funding to support the Boulder County Area Agency on Aging. The funding is part of more than a half million dollars of funding that Intermountain has provided to local entities in its Community Contributions program in Colorado and Montana where it does business.

“We prioritize giving to align with community health priorities identified by members of our community in order to allow for  a broader impact,” Mark Korth, Intermountain Healthcare Peaks Region president, said in a statement. “One of our priorities is improving mental well-being, which includes efforts to decrease frequent mental distress rates and depression rates. The Boulder County Area Agency On Aging is well positioned to help people live healthier and happier lives with the incredible services and resources it provides.”

The gift was made to support the Area Agency’s Aging Mastery Program that helps older adults make changes to “live well, do well and age well, minimizing their risk for mental stressors like depression and anxiety,” Intermountain said in a press statement. The mastery program provides free classes that are hosted at Good Samaritan.

“We’ve partnered with the BCAAA for years, and we’re thrilled to be able to ramp up the programs for older adults and to  have them go back to in-person,” Peggy Jarrett, regional director of community health improvement for Good Samaritan, said in a statement. “We know that when older adults aren’t isolated and they have opportunities to connect with  other people and with health care providers, it helps them protect their mental health. Mental health is one of the most  important community health needs we’ve identified across the entire Peaks region. By supporting these programs, we’re  helping to protect and maintain good mental health for older adults.”
