Boulder County Senior Deputy District Attorney Michelle Sudano has been named the Colorado prosecutor of the year.
Sudano was awarded the Robert R. Gallagher Award, an honor given out by the Colorado District Attorney’s Council.
Boulder County District Attorney Michael Dougherty presented Sudano with the award at a recent Colorado District Attorneys’ Council Conference.
“I am honored and humbled to have been recognized for this award,” Sudano said in a statement. “I am incredibly fortunate to work alongside all the amazing members of the Boulder County District Attorney’s Office and our law enforcement and community partners, who tirelessly seek justice for the citizens of Boulder County.”
Sudano is assigned to the Boulder DA’s Sex Crimes Unit and focuses on felony-level sex crimes. This year, Sudano prosecuted several sex assault cases, including one with two young victims and a case in which the defendant was a stranger.
Sudano also worked on the Richard Martinez and Juan Figueroa murder cases and “played an integral role on a major human-trafficking indictment and an officer-involved shooting investigation,” according to a release from the Boulder County District Attorney’s Office.
“Michelle is an outstanding prosecutor,” Dougherty said in a statement. “She consistently demonstrates compassion for victims and has brought some of the most dangerous offenders to justice. Her commitment to justice and her work ethic are exemplary. This Prosecutor of the Year Award reflects Michelle’s extraordinary efforts in the courtroom and for our community.”
